Tigers & Justin Verlander Agree to a 5 Year Contract Extension

According to Buster Olney the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander have agreed to a contract extension where he can earn up to $202 million over the next 7 seasons. Brian Britten first reported it was a 5 year extension with a vesting option for a 6th year.

Verlander has a career record of 124-65 with a 3.40 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. He was the 2011 AL Cy Young and MVP winner and may very well end his career with the Tigers now.

Tigers Release Brennan Boesch

According to Brian Britten, the Detroit Tigers have released Brennan Boesch. This ends an up and town run for Boesch in Detroit that ended on a bad note last year where he had the worst season of his young professional career.

The Tigers only had to pay 1/6th of his salary by releasing him today, according to Danny Knobler.

As a fan of Boesch, I hope he can find a good situation and succeed elsewhere.
