Max Scherzer Strikes Out 9 Batters in a Tigers 5-1 Win

The Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels today 5-1.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the 2nd inning after a double by Prince Fielder who scored on a double from Jhonny Peralta. Alex Avila was up next and hit a 2-run home run to give the Tigers an early 3-0 lead; it's his 6th of the season.

Danny Worth had a RBI double in the 4th inning, then Miguel Cabrera hit a solo home run in the 5th inning; it's his 21st of the season.

5 runs would be plenty for Max Scherzer who pitched well today. He pitched 7 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits, walking 4 and striking out 9 batters; Scherzer earned his 9th win of the season.

Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless 8th inning and Jose Valverde pitched a scoreless 9th inning to get the Tigers a series win.
