Miguel Cabrera's 35th Home Run Helps the Tigers to a 7-1 Win


The Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians tonight 7-1.

Austin Jackson led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a single, got to 2nd base on a hit-and-run play, then Miguel Cabrera came up and hit a 2-run home run; it's his 35th of the season and it gave the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead.

Doug Fister pitched well tonight, going 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 6 batters; he earned his 8th win of the season.

Joaquin Benoit came in for relief and pitched a scoreless 8th inning.

The Tigers added to their lead in the 8th inning after a walk to Austin Jackson, then a triple by Andy Dirks to score Jackson. Miguel Cabrera came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to score Dirks. Prince Fielder was up next and hit a solo home run; it's his 24th of the season. Delmon Young and Avisail Garcia each hit a single, then Jhonny Peralta hit a double to score both runners and the Tigers took a 7-1 lead to the 9th inning.

Jose Valverde came in and pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning to get the Tigers the win.

The Tigers have an off day tommorrow, but open up a 3 game road series with the Angels on Friday as Max Scherzer (15-6 3.93 ERA) pitches against Ervin Santana (8-11 5.32 ERA).
