Max Scherzer Pitches 7 Strong Innings in a Tigers 7-1 Win
The Detroit Tigers completed a sweep of the Kansas City Royals today with a 7-1 Win.
The Tigers scored first today in the 2nd inning after a single by Brennan Boesch, then a 2-run home run from Jhonny Peralta; it's his 5th of the season and gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
After the Royals made it a 2-1 game, Delmon Young responded in the 4th inning with a solo home run, which was his 4th day in a row with a home run; it's his 10th of the season and gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead.
The Tigers came back in the 5th inning with a single by Austin Jackson, then a single from Quintin Berry which advanced Jackson to 3rd base, then Prince Fielder came up and hit a 3-run home run; it's his 15th of the season.
Max Scherzer pitched great today going 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 7 batters; he earned his 8th win of the season.
Phil Coke came in and pitched a scoreless 8th inning.
The Tigers offense went back to work in the 8th inning with singles from Delmon Young and Brennan Boesch, then Jhonny Peralta hit a double that scored Young and the Tigers took a 7-1 lead.
Octavio Dotel came in and pitched a scoreless 9th inning to finish off the game for a Tigers win.
The Tigers don't play again till friday because of the All-Star break, but when they get back to playing, they'll open up a 3 game road series with the Baltimore Orioles as Doug Fister (2-6 4.75 ERA) takes on Jason Hammel (8-5 3.47 ERA).
