Lack of Clutch Hitting Has Tigers Lose 4-3

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins today 4-3.

The Tigers offense struggled to get going today. They didn't get their first hit till the 5th inning, which was a solo home run from Brennan Boesch; It's his 5th of the season.

Andy Dirks responded in the 6th inning with a solo home run of his own; It's his 4th of the season. Prince Fielder followed that up with a solo home run of his own; It's his 6th of the season.

Doug Fister struggled a bit today going only 6 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5 batters.

Phil Coke came in and pitched a scoreless 7th inning, Brayan Villarreal pitched 2 scoreless innings.

The Tigers started the 8th inning off with walks by Andy Dirks and Miguel Cabrera, so Prince Fielder came up with 2 on, no outs, but a strikeout from Prince Fielder and double play by Delmon Young killed the scoring chance. Hey Leyland, quit batting Delmon Young 5th. He stinks. That ended up being the last chance the Tigers had and couldn't get another run.

Interleague play starts tommorrow as the Tigers open a 3 game home series against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit sends Justin Verlander (4-1 2.47 ERA) to take on Charlie Morton (2-3 4.05 ERA).
