Prince Fielder's 2 RBI Leads the Tigers to a 3-2 Win



The Detroit Tigers beat the Cincinnati Reds today 3-2.

Ramon Santiago started the scoring for Detroit in the 2nd inning with a solo home run; It's his 2nd of the season.

Prince Fielder added another run for the Tigers in the 4th inning with a solo home run; It's his 10th of the season and the Tigers had a 2-0 lead.

The Reds scored 2 runs thanks to an error (well, it wasn't ruled an error, bt it clearly should've) by Delmon Young in the bottom of the 4th inning to tie the game.

Justin Verlander struggled with his pitch count today, bu ended up going 6 innings, giving up 2 runs (which after a likely appeal by the Tigers, will be unearned) on 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 9 batters; It was Verlander's 55th consecutive start of 6 innings or more.

Brayan Villarreal came in and pitched a scoreless 7th inning and ended up getting the win.

The Tigers broke a 2-2 tie in the 8th inning after a double by Brennan Boesch, intentional walk to Miguel Cabrera, and a single by Prince Fielder to score Boesch.

Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless 8th inning and Jose Valverde pitced a 1-2-3 9th innig to get his 11th save.

Drew Smyly (2-2 3.71 ERA) starts the series finale tommorrow for the Tigers against Homer Bailey (4-4 4.39 ERA).
