Alex Avila Joins the Club, Headed to the 15 Day DL
According to Brian Britten, Alex Avila has been placed on the 15 day DL with a right hamstring strain.
Avila was hitting .250 this season with a .338 on base percentage in 44 games with the Tigers. He has hit 5 home runs and 20 RBI as well. His numbers are down from last year, but did seem to have started to swing the bat better. He's had several nagging injuries this season, also.
Bryan Holaday is being called up to the Tigers from Triple-A Toledo. In 36 games with Toledo this season, Holaday is hitting .248, with a .313 on base percentage. He has only 10 RBI though and a slugging percentage of .314
Avila will join many teammates on the DL, which include Austin Jackson, Andy Dirks, Victor Martinez, Doug Fister and Al Alburquerque. This means 4 of the Tigers 9 starting position players are currently on the DL.
