Andy Dirks Headed to the 15 Day DL
According to Brian Britten Andy Dirks has been placed on the 15 day DL with right Achilles tendinitis. The move is retro active to May 31st.
Andy Dirks has hit .328 this season with a .379 on-base percentage. Dirks also has hit 4 home runs and has 16 RBI. He had established himself as the Tigers everyday left fielder and this is just another blow to the Tigers who currently have Victor Martinez, Austin Jackson, Doug Fister, and Al Alburquerque on the DL already. Gerald Laird, Alex Avila, and Joaquin Benoit, while not on the DL, are not available to play due to various nagging injuries.
Matt Young has been called up from Triple-A Toledo to replace Dirks, and this season, Young is hitting .259 with a .431 on-base percentage in 51 games; He also has 12 stolen bases.
