Tigers Defense Proves Costly in 4-3 Loss
The Detroit Tigers lost to the Chicago Cubs tonight 4-3.
Max Scherzer was 1 out from a nice start, but he gave up a 2-run double that made things look worse. He went 6 innnings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, walking 5 and striking out 8 batters.
The Tigers struggled to get anything going today against Paul Maholm, but in the 7th inning, after a double by Delmon Young, and walks to Jhonny Peralta and Quintin Berry, Ramon Santiago came up with the bases loaded and 1 out and hit a single to score Young. Austin Jackson was up next and with the bases loaded, hit a 2 RBI single to tie the game 3-3.
Phil Coke pitched a scoreless 7th inning, but gave up a run in the 8th inning due to 2 infield singles, 2 bad plays by Jhonny Peralta and 1 blown call by the 2nd base umpire which should've been the 3rd out of the inning allowed a run to score, and that proved to be the winning run.
