Justin Verlander Throws a Complete Game Shutout, 2 Outs Shy of No-Hitter in Tigers 6-0 Win
The Detroit Tigers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight 6-0.
The Tigers started the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning with an Andy Dirks single and a Miguel Cabrera RBI double. Prince Fielder followed that up with a RBI double of his own to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
Delmon Young hit a solo home run in the 4th inning. It's his 2nd of the season. After singles by Alex Avila and Brennan Boesch, Don Kelly hit a RBI single to give the Tigers and 4-0 lead and that would be plenty.
Justin Verlander walked Neil Walker in the 1st inning, and from there he would go on to retire the next 18 in a row before walking Andrew McCutchen in the 7th inning. The Pirates didn't get their first hit until a Josh Harrison ridiculous bloop single with 1 out in the 9th inning.
Verlander struck out 12 batters and walked only 2.
Drew Smyly (1-0 2.31 ERA) takes the mound tommorrow as he goes up against A.J. Burnett (1-2 5.12 ERA)
