Prince Fielder Gets 4 Hits, Max Scherzer Strikes Out 9 in Tigers 6-3 Win

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins today 6-3.

The Tigers offense started off quickly today in the 1st inning with a double by Andy Dirks followed by a RBI double by Miguel Cabrera, and then Prince Fielder drove in Miguel Cabrera with a single and took a 2-0 lead.

After the Twins tied the game, the Tigers came back in the 5th inning with singles by Alex Avila and Ramon Santiago. Quintin Berry followed it up with a RBI single, and then Andy Dirks hit a 2 RBI double. Miguel Cabrera joined the party with a RBI single on his own.

Max Scherzer was done after 80 pitches because of a lengthy rain delay. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings, gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, he didn't walk a batter and struck out 9, and got the win; He was pitching well and probably would've gone 7 innings had the rain not ended his start.

Octavio Dotel came in to replace Scherzer and pitched 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings; Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless 8th inning, and Jose Valverde got the save.

Tigers pitching ended up striking out 16 batters today.

Rick Porcello (3-4 5.29 ERA) takes the mound tommorow as the Tigers look for a series sweep against P.J. Walters (2-1 2.95 ERA).
