Brennan Boesch Has 4 RBI, Tigers win 7-2

The Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays today 7-2.

Drew Smyly while not great, gave the Tigers a chance to win in his major league debut. He struggled in the 1st inning giving up 2 walks and a hit but got the next 3 batters out to end the inning, and ended up going 4 innings giving up 4 hits, walking 3 batters and recording 4 strikeouts.

How did the offense do? Well, until the 5th inning, they had done almost nothing.

Alex Avila drew a walk to begin the inning and stole 2nd base after Peralta struck out on a 3-2 count. Andy Dirks drove in Avila with a triple, and Ryan Raburn was up next. If you know Raburn, you know what he did. Yep, that's right, check swing strikeout! Austin Jackson drew a walk with 2 outs and stole 2nd base before the birthday boy, Brennan Boesch drove in Dirks and Jackson to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

The Rays in the top of the 7th came back with a run, but a bad base running play by Carlos Pena ended a good chance to score another run.

In the bottom half of the inning Brennan Boesch drove in 2 more runs after getting a base hit off of Jake McGee. Alex Avila hit a triple to score Prince Fielder in the 8th and the Tigers never looked back.

Jose Valverde pitched a scoreless 9th inning to secure the victory.

The Tigers take their first road trip of the year tommorow as they head to Chicago to play the White Sox. Max Scherzer takes the mound hoping to get back on track as he faces Jake Peavy.
